May I begin by saying that this is not a blog about weight, weight loss or other personal matters or aspects to do with our bodies, my ‘Disguise your Size’ title is 100% business related.
As you know, a business has to start from somewhere and many begin life in a garage, shed, living room, around a kitchen table or conservatory within someone’s home. I’ve heard business owners talk on many occasions and they’ve described how the concept of their business came about. It’s surprising how many ideas have transpired from the sun bed whilst on holiday, or when enjoying meals with friends. My point is, businesses don’t start life as fully functional multinational organisations based in a tall building or with offices located within five different cities across the globe.
To get a business concept or idea off the ground, individuals often start their venture as a sole trader or very small limited company and have the basics, mobile phones, one or a couple of laptops, possible online platforms such as a web site and/or social media pages, they go business networking and use any low cost platforms or means to promote their business in its early life.
This in itself sets challenges for those businesses who wish to grow, because of the perceptions of others and their judgements about working with such a small outfit. We tend to make snap judgements about businesses based on their size and telling signs include:
· Its postal address
· Promotion of a mobile number as the businesses main telephone number
· Its telephone being answered repeatedly by the business owner
The finances that start up businesses have at their disposal don’t allow them budget to employ additional staff to answer phones, the capacity to take on business premises or in some cases the ongoing investment to install a business landline. However, there are alternatives to employing staff or taking on businesses premises.
Over my twenty years of operating a telephone answering service, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a number of small business, some of which work with us until they grow to a size where they can take on the staff to answer their telephones and also move to businesses premises. But there are others who have found that with growth they’ve become so busy that our services are still extremely beneficial to them.
So, how can we help?
We provide a landline number that businesses can divert their phones to, but some actually use this number on promotional materials instead of their mobile telephone number. Our numbers have a Market Harborough prefix, but we can also supply non-geographical numbers if required.
