Is the uninterrupted holiday a thing of the past?
Have you had a nice holiday? It’s the traditional questions that replaces ‘small talk’ about the British weather at this time each and every year. What has changed though, is the response we get to this question.
Traditionally, the reply to ‘Have you had a good holiday?’ would have been to confirm a nice time had been had or to tell you about some holiday horrors experienced whilst away. I think this year more than ever I’ve heard about so many work interruptions and the time people have had to spend working during their holidays. It’s such a shame, as a break to clear the mind and refresh your outlook on life every year is so important
In many cases, it almost seems impossible for business owners or managers to take a break. I think the main contributor to this is technology and the access to it. Now we can access emails from anywhere, it’s so easy for customers to continue to contact us and our temptation to browse messages whilst away is higher than ever before, because we dread the amount of emails we’ll return to if we don’t. You never feel like you are intruding when you send an email, because you think that the recipient will pick it up when it’s convenient for them. If you know someone is away on holiday, you would only really telephone them if it was an emergency
I also think that the demand for people’s time is higher than ever and this is because we are all so accessible through these technologies.
So, what is the answer?
Well, realistically for business owners, managers or those working alone might think it’s impossible to take an uninterrupted break from work. However, interruptions can be managed. Message Takers can cover your telephones whilst you tale a holiday. That certainly would tick one box for those working alone. We would simply send you messages at times when you’d want to receive them (if at all). You can give us instructions of what to tell those calling you and we can handle enquiries.
We could even be booking appointments so that you return to a full diary. Set guidelines for decisions we can make on your behalf or let us know at what points you’d need us to escalate enquiries or issues to you. Work towards managing possible interruptions whilst you take time out with you family by working through these with us here at Message Takers. We offer a thorough service that supports you and your business. To discuss your requirements, please do call us on 01858 439000.
