I thought it would be a good time to share some more top telephone etiquette tips to help you freshen up your skills on the phone. So, grab a quick cuppa and browse through six more telephone “do’s” and “don’ts”.
Do find out what you sound like – It’s amazing how much you can learn about the sound of your voice and make improvements to the way you speak over the telephone by recording yourself.
Don’t be afraid to turn away – We can all get caught out! If you have to sneeze or cough whilst on the phone, turn your head and cover your mouth and the receiver too. ‘save the callers ears’
Do take a moment – If you take a phone call whilst out and about it’s better to stop walking and take a moment to speak to the person on the other end of the line
Don’t rush a telephone call – It is better to phone someone back than try to speed up the conversation & rush through details.
Do stick to call back times – If you have set a pre-agreed time to call someone back, make sure you stick to that time, because they will be expecting you to do so.
Don’t try and multi-task – when you are on the phone concentrate on the call and listen to what the caller is saying.
Do use names, but don’t overuse them – Make sure you know the name of the person you are speaking to on the phone – Use their name in natural places during your conversation, but don’t overuse it.
